When I was approached by Valley Mill to try out some of their products I was more than happy to as it combined two of my favourite things – Wales and natural products!
I grew up in Wales and speak the language (gallaf siarad Cymraeg!) and love to see products made in Wales, and always look twice when I see a little touch of Wales – some beautiful slate, a traditional Welsh woollen blanket (my mum lives near one of the remaining Woollen Mills in Wales that still make them!) and of course the obligatory sheep wool products, both my girls have some sheep soft toys from Wales!
Valley Mill is based in Neath and sell a wide variety of Welsh hand made gifts, they have some really great gift ideas (including personalisation) for special occasions and some really lovely kitchenware items with a Welsh twist.
Valley Mill Natural Soaps
I tend to stay away from soap’s unless they are natural as they can dry the skin so much and leave an uncomfortable tight feeling, not so with these 100% natural shea butter and coconut oil soaps enriched with natural essential oils. All the soaps are housed in biodegradable wrapping with the Valley Mill logo on the front and all the ingredients are disclosed on the side. The soaps are made with natural colourings and when I saw the vibrant colours it surprised me, but in place of artificial colours Valley Mill use a combination of charcoal, spinach and coffee. A perfect natural alternative. If you are intrigued to know how they make the soaps and exactly what goes into the soaps have a look at the video below which shows you in detail how they make such lovely natural soaps.
Tea Tree & Witch Hazel 100g £4.00
Astringent and antibacterial tea tree and witch hazel is great for greasy and acne prone skin, and this fragrance is fresh and clean, although this soap is made for greasy skin I liked the texture and the softness it left on my skin post wash. My teenage daughter has been using this too and really liked the therapeutic properties as she suffers from acne, the soap has helped to tackle her skin, one more thing to note it doesn’t make the bath tub slippery! One of my bug-bears with soaps, it’s awful when they create a slippery bath surface, especially when you have kids using them but with these soaps from Valley Mill you son’t have that hazard.
Lavender & Citronella 100g £4.00
Two scents which I love as they remind me of Australia, we had a huge lavender bush growing in our garden when we lived there and used to use citronella oil and candles to keep the flies away! This was my favourite soap as the fragrance is so lovely and I was happy to find that the scent lasted lightly on my skin for some time after using.
Bergamot & Basil 100g £4.00
An unusual pairing and the strong scent of bergamot shines through, I found that this soap was a really good scent for men as it has a musky , masculine fragrance. My OH has been using it in place of his usual soap and really likes the understated, musky scent (he lives with three girls so the bathroom is sparse of male products!) so although the scent wouldn’t be something I would usually go for, it was perfect for my OH.

Valley Mill Natural Soy Candle – Passion Fruit 10 oz £16.00
Carefully packaged and protected when the soy candle arrived, and I opened the box I was so happy to see it had a pretty Welsh slate lid, which has an engraving of the Valley Mill motif on the top. The glass tumbler the candle is housed in is heavy and re-usable which is perfect as I love to re-cycle items like this.
Once you lift the slate lid the intoxicating scent of passion fruit hits you, fruity and exotic and before you have even lit the wick the room starts to smell amazing. The wooden wick burns slowly complementing the natural soy to give you up to 60 hours of burn time, and once you have reached the end of the candle you can go ahead and re-use both the lid (coaster?) and the glass tumbler (I’m thinking of using it as a vase) What I love about soy candles is that they give so much more burn time and also much less smoke when it burns. The fragrance is lovely and it filled the room, without being overpowering and I look forward to trying out some of the other scents.
I know it’s 6 months away but these ideas from Valley Mill would make excellent Christmas gifts so I know I will be popping back to do some shopping before the festive season!
