We have had such a hard time with Lara our ten year old just recently, as she has had tonsillitis for the last five weeks with many trips to the GP for advice and treatment. So when the opportunity came along to try out some tasty gluten free food from Heck , I was really happy to test it out on the family, and primarily to encourage Lara to eat some good quality foods to help to get her back to good health! With her illness she has been off her food completely so I was happy to introduce the Heck range to her in a bid to get some tasty foods into her. I really liked the variety Heck had presented for us to try and with barbecue weather on the horizon (we hope!) the sausages will be just perfect for cooking up for the family.
Heck are a company run by the Keeble family who’s brand name originated from a favourite family saying – “What The Heck” their motto to provide tasty farmer market quality foods (primarily sausages) for everyone to enjoy. As soon as the delivery arrived we were all drawn to the bright clear packaging and from my point of view all the pertinent information is easy to find and to understand and the high percentage of meat per sausage is always something I look for and I was so pleased to see it. We tried the Zesty Chicken Sausages, the Chicken Italia Sausages, Heck 97% Pork Sausages, the Nuts About Cheese Sausages, the Gourmet Goat’s Cheese Burgers and the Super Greens Balls. It was a really good change to have some vegetarian options in amongst the delivery, as we are a carnivorous family and I find that some of the most successfully tasty meals together have been the meat free ones!
With plenty of tastes to cater for in our house I have to really tailor my meals every evening as there are so many likes and dislikes to remember, not forgetting the teen who regards any unknown (or green!) vegetable as the enemy! So when I served the vegetarian options (the Gourmet Burgers, Nuts About Cheese Sausages and the Super Green Balls) with a simple salad and some new potatoes for us all I was dubious that both kids would be fully converted on another meat free evening. I was totally wrong though as they both enjoyed our first Heck meal as much as my OH and I did. What we all noticed about the different tastes of the three meat free products was that they were all full of flavour and our teen even enjoyed the Super Green Balls much to our utter amazement. A lovely change to have a family meat free meal even though Lara our youngest did tell me off for grilling the Nuts About Cheese sausages a little too much – I’ll do better next time!
We had the gluten free sausages over the next two days and they are very easy to cook up (with help from the kids) and being high in pork and low fat they are most certainly a brand I will continue to buy for the family as we all really enjoyed them. The different tastes were a huge hit and with ten sausages to each pack there was plenty for the price (£3.00 per pack) which makes for an economic family meal. I have seen the Heck products are very easy to find in supermarkets (our local Co-op and Waitrose) as well as from the Heck website and with such a varied range it’s easy to find a product to suit your taste. I love the fact that with both the meat sausages and the meat free products all the family enjoyed them and it has rekindled a family favourite evening of meat free Mondays. A big thank you to Heck for sending our family such a tasty hamper to try out.
