F. Dick Red Spirit Knife Set Review – My Family Ties

My OH is a qualified butcher and also a qualified chef, so I have picked up a lot of knife skills over the years we have been together, and when the opportunity arose for me to review a set of catering quality F Dick Red Spirit knives from Nisbets I jumped at the chance. Food preparation is so time consuming if you don’t have the right equipment, if you are not using a quality sharp knife, what could be a ten minute job ends up to take half an hour!

When I first received the set of F Dick Red Spirit knives , I opened up the packaging and found they were neatly housed in a protective sturdy case. Ideal for keeping them safely put away when not in use, and each knife is kept very firmly in place with an individual leather strap and buckle attached to the velvet material within the box.

Dick Red Spirit 3 Piece Gift Box Set

Included in the 3 piece set is:

  • 8.5 Inch Chefs Knife (GH289)
  • 7 Inch Santoku Knife (GH291)
  • 2.5 Inch Paring Knife (GH289)

Each knife from the Red Spirit set have a thin tapered blade to ensure precision cutting while you are doing your food preparation.  The vibrant red handle features on each knife which are all crafted with state-of-the-art German technology combined with premium quality Asian craftsmanship. What I liked about the knifes aside from their excellent quality, is the fact that the ergonomically shaped handles are ideal for gripping when you are chopping food, and this reduces any chances of slipping and potentially cutting yourself.

After trying these knives out for a few weeks I have found them to be a really useful in the kitchen, the quality and durability of the knives is something I do always value and I have found that I have been using these three knives exclusively for all my food preparation with great success. They are very sharp, and very precise, which makes it so much easier to get the family meal ready, as well as a lot faster too. I found them easy to use as a mum who cooks daily for my own family, and I liked the fact that after each use you can clean them and store them neatly away in their dedicated box. This is not only practical as you can store them away tidily, but also from a safety point of view, it is good to have somewhere to store knives which keeps them away from your children, who perhaps could inadvertently cut themselves while looking through the kitchen draws for something else.

As the knives are encased in a sturdy fully lined presentation box this would be an ideal gift idea for a chef or food lover, and at £101.98 for this professional knife set I think this offers great value for money. The knives are available from Nisbets suppliers to professional chef’s for the last 30 years. If this has whetted your appetite for the Red Spirit range, why not take a look at the whole range of knives they have on offer on the Nisbets website.

"knife porn"!! A good knife makes so much difference and I can't stand having to hack through things with blunt knives. I have a bro-in-law who's a butcher so he usually provides us with professional knives.

My husband is really in to his cooking knives (like your other half) and he has a huge one from Pampered Chef which has it's own sheath and special slot in the draw, our regular knives (the ones I use) are not so good though so a set like this might be a good idea for a gift for him.

Good knives make cooking safer. I am just in the process on sitting on my hands as the boys learn to use them

  14. February 12, 2015 / 11:03 pm

They look amazing. Our kitchen knives are in terrible shape, blunter than they ought to be and falling apart from being shoved in the dishwasher too much. Would it be strange to want knives for Mothers Day?!
